Resin Bound

Resin bound is a method that uses natural aggregates, recycled glass or marble and a resin mixture, blended together. The process is designed to ensure that every single stone and particle is totally covered in resin. It is laid in a way to achieve a permeable finish, which helps prevent flooding by returning water to the natural water table. The depth of the surface is between 12mm and 24mm, depending on the size of stone that is used. The resin ensures there is no roughness – a totally smooth finish is achieved which adds to the sleek, clean aesthetic.

Another benefit of resin bound surfacing is its toughness – it can withstand a great deal of usage without losing the attractive appearance, and the lack of loose stones means that none will be dislodged by vehicles or footfall. The texture of the surface makes it a safe, anti-slip surface to walk on. Different sizes and colours of stone can be used, meaning you can choose a colour that perfectly matches your tastes and the design of your property. It also needs minimal maintenance – simply power wash or sweep the surface at least twice a year to ensure there is no buildup of moss or algae, preserving the quality of your driveway and ensuring it looks as good as possible at all times.

Resin Bonded

Unlike resin bound, resin bonded surfaces are created by applying a layer of resin film, which is then covered by dry aggregate scattered on top. Once it has set, or ‘cured’, any excess stone is removed, and the surface is left with a rougher finish than its resin bound counterpart. The surface is also impermeable, meaning it is liable to surface water accumulation, and the stone can become scattered as the it is not totally enclosed in resin like resin bound surfaces are.
